Dunkin' Donuts is trying to to get back into Russia, after pulling out in 1999, the new English company is trying to get into the Russian coffee wars, the tea drinking nation is now getting into coffee, and D&D wants to emulate Starbucks which has 31 locations so far and is the third in the $575 million coffee bushiness. 11 years ago D&D pulled out of Russia following three years of losses exacerbated by a rogue franchisee who sold liquor and meat pies along side with the donuts and coffee. D&D's new plan is to team up with Konstantin Petrov, a Russian real- estate developer. I wish my fave coffee company the best of luck in the motherland ;)

Ford is back on track
ford is finally making its return to the top, the American car giant reported $2.1 billion profit for the first quarter. this is AWESOMEEE I mean its starting to look like America is back on its feet, and as long as ford doesn't try the same shit it did last time and keeps innovating the market . this isn't to say everything is dreamy for ford right now, they are $31.3 Billion in debt, though that's down from about $34 Billion earlier this year. but the point is the company went from being like $ -10 billion to $2.1 billion, I would say someone is doing something right. I have to say though can we have some cool looking cars cus other than like the mustang I can't think of a American car that is just cool.

china really likes oil
China needs oil, like a LOT like HOLY SHIT, we thought we where gas guzzlers. nope that would be the Chinese. its probably the something billion people they have that is the reason they need it all. But why they need the gas is not the point of this post. seeing as the Chinese need gas they where like hey south Americans how about we loan you $20,000,000,000 (I figured you might want to see the zeros.) and that's just what they did, they loaned the money to Mr. Hugo Chavez. this is one of china's largest foreign loans to date. the loan comes at probably the best timing for Mr.Chavez since his popularity has come under fire because of Venezuela's crumbling infrastructure and other things. it looks like china is trying to get in on the oil business but it might be prity hard for them. will have to see how it goes.

fileshareing is for college students
so i was checking stuff out and came acourse ppl talking about a new law about file sharing and happened to come acouse this story about college filesharers that in effect show that a new law on file sharing on campuses — in short, it may not make much difference.
"Students who are about to graduate often hand down the tricks of
stealing music and movies to the next senior class... At the College of
New Jersey, that means surreptitiously finding a new home each year for a
computer holding an enormous directory of illegal files on the campus.
... The machine runs software called Direct Connect, which lets people on
a local network easily trade files among their hard drives in a way that
is usually undetectable to anyone outside the network. ... Educause
recently unveiled a website with information about the new regulations.
It provides case studies from six 'role-model campuses,' listing the
steps they are taking to combat piracy. Another page lists 57 legal
sources of music and movies on the Web. But when asked which campuses
have forged new policies in reaction to the law, Educause officials were
unable to name any."

PS part of the research came from slashdot not just the WSJ figerd I should say that before someone jumped down my throat about it.

U.K.'s drinking problem
Idk about you but when I think of crazy drunks I most def think about the U.K. where you can drink at 16 and most tend to do in excuse. crazy drinking and partying routinely turns the weekend landscape int he capital of wales into a scene from the Night of the living dead, with intoxicated young men and women stumbling around in trash that litters the street. while this seams like a laughable issues its not when you add the violence that is escalating with the rise in drinking. the seriousness of the problem has caused many politicians to try an enact measures against the rampant drinking which many say is caused by the rise in cheap alcohol and pre-mixed cocktails. The man problem is that while drinking has fallen majorly in almost every other country it has risen in the UK by a whopping 19% like holy shit. so really until the UK gets its youth to stop drinking or chill it out at lest they most likely will contun to have this problem

so I think we should ditch the teachers.
ok so we all understand the public school system is broken, this is a known, but after reading an article in the WSJ I think I know one of the reasons. we have to many teachers, this may seam awesome right ? cus there are a lot of ignorant kids (not dumb just lacking knowledge). Wrong, we have way to many teachers, (also BTW I don't want anyone to take this as a slam on teachers, its not I have a lot of respect for them cus I sure as hell couldn't teach the lil buggers). the problem is not that teachers aren't retiring or anything its that schools keep hiring extra teachers in good none recession years and when 3 years later the school and state are both going broke they can't lay off the teachers. so here's a real simple solution. DON'T HIRE MORE THAN YOU NEED. schools please stop being greedy, its unbecoming and no one feels it worse than you. expt for maybe the tax payers. on another note this sort of thing wouldn't happen as much if we ran schools as business but that's a WHOLE other argument and discussion.

Iad, apple's new toy
the google apple war is well known too techies and none-techs alike, personally this blogger thinks apple can shove it, for google owns the web, nof said. but it looks like apple is taking on the mobile web with the in program its introducing called Iad, (btw what the F*ck is with the I in front of everything I mean come on), this is most likely in response to googles recent attempt to acquire the Mobile phone ad agency AdMob, this is apples first stab at what has been so far mainly google turf, with its new Iad it will reach hundreds of millions of Itouch and IPhone users. Iad will be released with the next update in Iphone firmware. I think it will just annoy a hell of a lot of people but we'll see how it goes. also one good thing will come of this update, finally IPhone users will get multitask functionality.

barbie, its kinda like the most old school doll there can be, and if you are a girl or had a sister growing up you most def at some point played with a barbie.unfortunately up until now barbie has been kind of an airhead of a doll and had been majorly critzed for teaching girls to be vain, shallow, etc. but thanks to a bunch of awesome girl geeks that is about to change. OK here's the story resonly barbie maker Mattel Inc. held a contest for what the next barbie career would be. choices where: Architect, anchorwoman, Computer engineer, environmentalist and surgeon. during the first week the votes where overwhelmingly for anchorwoman, but soon female computer engineers found out about the vote is decided it was time barbie got her geek on. they started a viral campaign to get people to vote for computer engineer barbie and sure enough the new barbie is finally joined the ranks of geekdom. this geek takes his hat off to his awesome female counterparts who set this whole thing in motion.

the LHC is sooo worth the money
my option piece this week is based on an article named A second big bang in Geneva, right now our world is in a finacal meltdown so its vary understandable that a lot of European tax payers are pissed off about the 10 billion euro that has been spent on the Large Hardon Collder. the LHC is a geeks dream, it will let us see into the beginning of our universe, and maybe check out some of the laws the control our universe. to me that's defiantly worth 10 billion I mean to be honest we spend more money one weapons each year than we have on this major project (which has run 16 years). personally I think if any programs should be shut down its having out dated army's or useless wars. so I'm ready for the LHC to get turned on are you ?

china sucks man
ok so my option piece for the week is based on the article called why Americans can't win in china. in the article the writer, Warrn Kozak, talks about his time living in china in the 80's. he tells a story of when won some minor swimming race's and then was set up against professional swimmers so that he would not show up the Chinese, he didn't get this for a while because of the ridiculousness of this. but when if you think about this it says a lot about how much China will go to not let its people be shown up. in context with the whole google thing its easy to see China using an email as a reason to kill someone they feel is unloyal. So I applaud google for standing up to China and not sticking around if they continue to be hacked. a lot of countries would say Americans are arrogant but I don't think this is true, I would say Americans have confidence. we come from a free world where we can say FUCK YOU to our government at anytime and not worry about our family vanishing in the middle of the the night. this is in major contrast to a country like china or Russia.

China shuts down google
So like yesterday china cock blocked google on its mainland, shutting down access to the search engine. at first google blamed the problems on tech issues but then it around 4:30pm *US eastern* Google started to blame china saying they where blocked by the Great Firewall. Since the block is only temporary it would seam as if China is saying google we can fuck with you if we choose to. or maybe it was a mistake but I honestly think its china flexing its muscles for the first time in this China, google struggle. But google knew what it was getting into when it stopped filtering its Sachs so I guess they are down for the fight if one occurs.

Nintendo tries out 3D
I personally don't own a DS, or any of its offspring, I did as a child own a gameboy and a gameboy advance but I never had a DS. but if Nintendo pulls off new 3DS then I might just plop down a few hundred dollars for one. with sales of DS's falling, Nintendo has announced a new type of DS called 3DS. as its name would suggest it does have a 3D display that doesn't require the user to wear glasses. I love all things 3D and the chance to play Mario in 3D is a major draw for me and I'm guessing millions of other gamers, tho Nintendo has been playing around with the tech for 3D for years this is thier frist released fray into the Field. (they even developed it for the gamecube tho never released it). I like millions of other games don't really think of Nintendo when someone says record breaking graphics but this may change all of that and I for one will be first in line to grab mine.

the fall of AT&T
looks like AT&T time will soon be over if they don't watch out. since it looks like Apple is developing Iphones that work on CDMA which for those of you who don't know is what is used by AT&T's main competitor Verizon wireless AT&T uses GSM. Up until now the Iphone as been a GSM phone since GSM is a more widely used frequency in the world and AT&T has had the key to the gate if you wanted an Iphone. But it looks like that era is ending and that is going to be tough for AT&T to swallow since at lest in 2009 Iphones growth went up 83% world wide, easily out pacing smart phones which rose at about 20-30%. and seeing as because of all the traffic put on the AT&T system because of the Iphones it has become notoriously especially in city like New York. Right now nothing is concrete though I wouldn't get my hopes up Verizon users and even if it does come out its not till some time around September.

taco bell hits india
I love taco bell, I eat it at lest twice a week. this is probably vary unhealthy but hey a guys got to enjoy the small things in life right ? anyway now thousands of Indians will also know the taste of taco bell since Yum Brands inc. urged on the by the success of pizza hut and KFC, opened their first taco bell in India on march 16. The fast food store has attracted and average of 2,000 to 2,500 people a day. Yum had to replace all the beef on there menu with chicken and also have hired more staff to help translate what the food is.what we are seeing in India is similar to what we saw in China a decade ago says the president of Yum brands, Graham Allean. Yums has also introduced bottomless drinks, a first for Indian fast food. its cool to see India will finally know and love the taste of the great Mexican taco.

the war we really need to fight
my option thingy for this week is on the Mexican drug war. a war I think is much more impotent than any war in the middle east since lets face it Mexico is basically sister of America or at most that cousin no one really likes to have around but can't ditch cus he's family. and there drug war is starting to spill over into America, no I take that back it is spilling over into America. since 206 14,000 people have been killed by drug cartels and some of them where Americans. no I'm not taking about addicts who died of complications due to their drug habit I'm talking about people gunned down or had there head chopped off. these I feel are the real terrorist we need to be fighting since they are on our border and attacking our neighbors so lets call our troops back and if we really must go to war, let send them to fight the drug cartels.

my mom really wants a Saab, she plans to buy one when she gets out of school. I plan to drive it really fast and look REALLY cool in it :). but the point of this blog has nothing to do with be driving coolly in a Saab. it has to do with the fact that Spyker cars, the company that bought Saab from GM in January plans to move into Royal Oak in Detroit, which was preveily occupied by GM. the Michigan Economic Growth Authority gave Spyker Cars $1.4 Million in tax credits as instive for the move. this is awesome for Detroit as since the fall of the automotive industry its been losing its image as the automotive industry capital in America. also I like Saab's so that's just cool.

I like cars that have bluetooth
my options topic this week is electronics in cars, ok straight up who doesn't text and drive, if your saying you don't your most likely lieing and if you say its just kids then your an ass since I know at lest 3 adults who text and drive, or at lest write emails and drive. and guess what people who write on their phones and drive are something like 23 times more likely to be in a car accident caused by the fact that on average you spend 5 seconds not looking at the road each time you text. this is just one example of technology that on its own is an amazing advantage to human society, but when mixed with cars can cause lots of damage. so the question is that should we continue to let technology that is not relevant to the quality of the running of the car ? I mean even bluetooth cellphone distract the driver. many would say no, most worried parents and spouses. I think that the question shouldn't be should we, it should be how we, since as laws that ban cellphones from cars show people are most likely ignore them. so I think car company's and law makers shouldn't be trying to stop people from using tech in car, they should be working with them so that they use it safely. this also means that people should stop ignoring safety and us common since. next time you want to text and drive pull over or just call cus saving mins aren't worth the years you can lose.

china no one really likes you anyway so lets not push it.....
wow china is kinda going nuts, tho many would say this could be from all that lead based paint they seam to have lieing around. reason Chinese officials are pissed off at what they call inferior quality in brand name products, some named where Dolce & Gabbana, Hewlett-Packerd , Tommy Hilfiger, and Hugo Boss. they say that the clothes and computer products have been known to brake or just be not up the their standards. ok I'm going to stop and point out that at lest one of those company makes almost every thing in china (HP) and lets face it when you think of top notch quality, you sure don't think of china. so its kinda funny that they are getting pissed off at others for the same issue. the main reason this piss's them off or at lest they say it piss's them off is because china doesn't have any strong brand names, tend to have to import Brand names from other country's. and this has a major effect on their economy if they can mange to start exporting a strong brand name it would majorly boost their economy. I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon tho so they will just have to deal with that so called infer quality.

Microsoft you sneaky bastard
everyone by now knows of this google, china spat. but what people might not know is that Microsoft, is taking this opportunity to try to push its Bing search engine into the chines market. but so far its problem, such as of right now Bing is not even 1% of the search industry. also its name in Chinese depending on how you say it means sick, cold, or pancake. Microsoft has tried to fix this by renaming it bi ying. one of the main reasons Microsoft wants a greater presence in china is because then they can have some economic leeway to get the Chinese government help with the rampant pirating. which effects Microsoft's two biggest money earners, windows OS's and Microsoft office. I don't think they are going to have much success though seeing as right now they don't have a big share and IF google leaves most likely the next biggest search engine in china will step in and take the market share.

hmm guns, they are all around us here in the states, it doesn't matter if you look at them as evil or good, they are here to stay. and for some people that's ok, as long as you keep them at home and don't bring them to the local Starbucks when you get your morning mocha, but according to Starbucks, barns and Nobel, and wallmart they are all ok with people who have the correct permit to wear a gun openly in their stores. while some people take offence to this I personally think if a person wants to carry a guy openly and it is with in the law then yeah they should, cus look personally I would Rather know you have a gun and know how to react if you turn out to be a crazy person. I myself plan to own a gun later in life to protect my family and home with, (I'll never Carry it on my person cus lets be real here this is America and I'm black, I could get shoot to death going for my safety wallet). it looks like most major companies agree with me saying that in states where it is allowed then yes you can Carry your gun openly.

big ass monpolys are AWESOMEEEEE
someone punch the little guy in the face, and give some cash to the man. I like that since I agree with Daniel Henninger when he says bring back the Robber business Barons of old. we as a nation are broke, we are losing jobs fast and small business's are closing every day, SO LETS SELL OUT, lets drop the pretence we need jobs to drive our economy and although it is bad for one company to own all of the market share it is almost impossible now a days. because look yeah sure there are a bunch of upstart business's that will survive and become thriving company's but there are 2 for every 1 that will fail, and not every one is ready to start their own companies, some people are dumb. they need to work for someone else so NO MORE yelling let the little guy win, since right now we need some major big guys to help win our battles, mind you I don't mean lets just let them run wild and outsource every damn thing but small business just don't hire or employ enough people to drive our economy so as of right now I'm pro big company....... but that's just my thought on the matter

the Google attacks aftermath
if you where paying attention at all in January you remember Google reported an attack on its Gmail accounts and other applications, from Chinese hackers, the result of this is google pulling out of china. A report by Alex Stamos of iSEC Partners Inc., a cyber security firm, states that the number of companies hit by attacks that bear a strong resemblance to those on Google could total more than 100—about three times the number previously reported. Mr. Stamos stresses, however, that the resemblance does not necessarily mean the same people were behind all of the attacks. this isn't a new thing since chines hackers have been attacking western companies as long back as 2000, the big point in this is realizing how good they've gotten at it. no more DOS attacks, now they are after information, not just to bring down a site, this can be a major problem in the coming days.

the new cold war, digital style
now being only 18 I don't remember the cold war but I do understand what it is. and what Google and Microsoft are doing is definitely a new cold war. it started with a simple $335,000 in unpaid advertising bills. Google sent a two sentence complaint, thinking this was just routine, but what they reserved was nothing of the sort. a 24-page antitrust lawsuit against Google, accusing the search-engine giant of a litany of monopolistic abuses. a little research on Google's part showed that Charles "Rick" Rule, long the chief outside counsel on competition issues for Microsoft. turned out old Microsoft, who is not at all new to anti-trust lawsuits(we all remember the late 90's anti-lawsuits by Netscape against the software giant). turned out this wasn't the first small company Microsoft had funded to sue Google for anti-trust. all over Europe lawsuit have been popping up from Microsoft backed company. its the begging of a proxy war on Microsoft if I ever saw one. Google's comment on it was that as they get bigger this is bound to happen. aka big your best Microsoft, because most definitely isn't scared.

Back in 2006 a bunch of astronomers go together and made a choice, that chose gives me the opportunity to say to my 12 year old cousin, when I was your age Pluto was a planet. we've all heard about this how Pluto is no longer a plant well there in the opinion of Ken Croswell it should be named once more a planet, I tend to agree with him on this one since Pluto is by no means small it even has moons, I mean that's not saying much. but the largest asteroid we've found is only have the size of pluto so yeah give old man Pluto back his Planethood, I mean he deserves it. the IPad jump starts the PC tablet industry
alright so apple drops the IPad a few weeks ago and tho it was a major disappointment even to apple haters like myself, its got the whole PC industry scrambling to put out a Tablet that can compete with the IPad (this shouldn't be hard since the damn thing doesn't have flash). HP is finalizing pricing a Tablet that is almost the same size as the IPad but runs Win 7, it also has cellular connectivity, in my option it will probably a lot better than the IPad only because its a legit touch screen computers. Acer, Sony, Dell, and even Microsoft are all watching Apple to see how the IPad turns out and also working on there own projects to compete with the IPad. as much as I hate the say it, the IPad was a majority good thing for consumers if only because it reintroduced PC makers into trying to tap into the market again and making awesome touch screen products, which in the past have tended to not really ever take off. right now Tablet based computers make up only 1% of world wide computer sales. so lets all us Tablet lovers cross our hands and hope this IPad dose something good.

I like to own not rent my books please
While looking through the opinion page on the WSJ I came across this debate about E-books and agree with Randell Stock and Carolyn Mathews when they say E-books aren't ready for the main stream yet. alright we all know about the E-books. on the surface they are awesome. they are electronic so no more killing trees to read that new harry potter or twilight book, they are more portable since the device's they come on tend to be thin and for the most part compact, (as compact as you can be with an E-book reader). I'm sure we all know someone with a kindle or someone who is planing to buy an IPad (yes we all have dumb Friend) but the point is they seam awesome. that is until you read the small print see here's the thing, you don't actually own the books you buy. you are simply renting them, in that licensing agreement you agree to when you buy the book, (or rent it really) your only allowed to keep it for a set amount of time, unlike a real book E-books can't be loaned, they can't be sold, and you can't just leave them on the shelf for as many years as you want. lets not forget the smell and feel of a new book when you sit down to stick your nose in one. also they are really expense I'm a vary avid reader during the summer and i can read at lest one book a day sometimes but when a E-book is 10 bucks a pop that adds up to quite a lot. soo I think E-books, while a good idea need some real perfecting before they are main stream.

I think the only thing I use a lot that's not Google is Skye. so when I read that Google was going to start supplying certain city's with affordable high speed Internet I was like hell yeah. the idea behind it is to help shape the high speed Internet business policy's. since Google knows it can't compete with comcast or att but it wants to show them how to spread the speed fast and with as little cost the the users as possible. all I have to say is good job Google and I hope they are successful with there endeavors.

apple your a dick
ok, ok, first off I'm going to fess up. I hate apple, I think they are a prick of a company and there products are locked up and the IPhone is a piece of shit. having said this I'm also going to say I plan to buy a mac later this year when I'm no longer a broke ass college student....
but down to what this blog post is about, apple Vs Adobe, hmm ok so for those who don't know whats going on earlier this year apple dropped the Ipad, which is basically a Itouch with a REALLY big screen, and get this NO FLASH, ok so let me put this in perspective, flash owns the Internet, you can't do shit with out it. you can't watch hulu, YouTube, addictinggames.com, hell you can't ever watch porn if that's your thing. like flash owns the Internet, and good thing cus it works, its free, and its just generally a cool product. being someone who has made flash games and movies I can say its really fun and easy to make stuff with. but here's the real deal apple is trying to replace flash with HTML5, its own flash like product. personally I think its just a dick move on apples part mainly since most people won't switch over, this blogger included. and if they want the Ipad to be the Internet surfing hit that Jobs is calling it they shouldn't wall off 90% of interactive web products.
The guy who some how can't seam to get any work done until he has pants on

P.S. this isn't the first time apple and adobe have done this. apple wouldn't let flash on the IPhone, and we see how long that worked for. and that was on a device that wasn't just about surfing the web

credit systems are madd complicated dude
ok so I read this letter from Bob Dewberry to the WSJ and in it he called for the return of credit as it was for WW2 vets. he points out how a man who could prove he had no need for it could get a line of credit. he also says how this was before the invention of credit cards and points out that it worked just fine plus it was simple, no bundled mortgages and confusing rating services. while I agree that this probably was a simpler and maybe even easier way to handle credit, it just isn't practical in today's world where you can fly across the globe in a few hours. the world got really small really fast and today's consumer needs a credit card system that can keep up with him/her and maybe that comes along with a lot of complications but as long as you don't act crazy with your card and pay your bills on time you should be ok.

A&F is evil but cool
so Abercrombie and Fitch equals cool. Any American teenage growing up in 2000's knew this, I mean yeah some kids wore American eagle but if you where cool or preppy you wore Abercrombie. that was just how it was. the brand became a symbol for portraying cool. it showed a certain status, it showed your parents or you could spend 50 bucks on a crappy T-shirt. it showed that if you where a girl that you where skinny since they tended not to make there cloths in bigger size's. although this is true for guys to as of this writing I am an XL when it comes to T-shirts (normally I'm a M). but the fact remands Abercrombie and Fitch and its sister clothing line hollister are synonymous with cool. or they were see the problem is that we all grew up (teenagers of 2000's) we are entering our 20s and starting college, we are also broke, since teen unemployment is on the rise. And since little kids have started to wear the brands more and more they have become less cool. this is showing up in Abercrombie's and Hollister's sales which where down 19% and 25% respectively from last year. in perspective Aeropostle and American Eagle are up 10% and 7%. Abercrombie got lazy there styles haven't really changed much in the last 12 years and because of that what was once cool is no longer where as tho American Eagle did once have a legal run in with Abercrombie over copying its style it and Aeropostle have embraced charge and lowered prices to deal with Teen unemployment and tho Abercrombie has also lowered price's the same shirt with the letters A&F vs AE will cost you an extra 19 bucks on average, 10 if they are on sale.personally I prefer Abercrombie & Fitch to American Eagle and will continue to buy cloths from them. but it looks like for once in the last 10 years they don't dominate the prep teen market anymore.

The fall of Toyota as we know it
OK so like everyone knows the deal with Toyota, how they completely dropped the ball on this one. but just in case you don't know what I'm talking about. here's what happened: in January 2010 Toyota recalled around 6.5 Million cars from the US and 1.8 mill from Europe because of what is thought to be a problem with the acceleration pedal sticking to the floor which caused it to suddenly accelerate. That problem was blamed for several crashes, including an accident involving a Lexus that accelerated to more than 120 mph before crashing in San Diego, killing four people. this is probably the worst PR thing to happen to Toyota in it 73 year history and there is almost no chance of them coming back from it. They have stopped production and sales on all automobiles while they try to fix this. it is a devastating blow to the company who was already hurting from the global recession (in May of 2009, Toyota reported a record annual net loss of $4.4 billion) I highly doubt they will be able to recover, well not as Toyota. Most likely the company will show up later under a different name, repackaged as something else to be once more sold to the unknowing consumer.
